Straps and back panel: where comfort is decided

• Are the straps anchored wide? Straps meeting the bag far apart at the top spread load across the shoulders. Straps stitched close together pull inward and ache after 20 minutes.
• Is the webbing genuinely adjustable? You want range for a t-shirt in July and a coat in January.
• Does the back panel breathe? Padded sections with a gap down the spine let air move. Hemp already breathes better than coated nylon; a channelled panel makes it noticeably cooler in summer.

Side bottle pockets matter more than people expect, too — a bottle inside the main compartment is a bottle waiting to leak on your laptop.

Rain: what hemp does and does not do

Dense hemp canvas beads light rain and rolls it off.
